I love small horse shows. They’re one big happy family of people getting together and sharing their love for animals. An indoor arena with a bit of injected heat becomes an intimate cozy setting, making us oblivious to the cold Quebec winter howling outside.
The organizer’s five-year-old son was in charge of the ribbons, reaching up on tippy-toes to hand the pennants to the lofty, looming winners. A lead-line class of children, perched atop their mounts, were led by their anxious mothers, a watchful eye on them at all times.
Horse shows, however, cannot ever be complete without attendant dogs running amok, and in this case, invited by the judge, herself. (Note the poodle-of-greenery mascot!) Hunters and jumpers, challengers for ribbons… when all is said and done, it’s smiles all around and, “When is the next show?!”
That was the Winter Fun Show at Burgundy Hill Stables.
